Why Self-Host?

If you don't want to trust a commercial VPN provider with all your traffic, and don't want the high technical overhead of setting up your own VPN server, Ceres can help. Commercial VPNs are effectively black boxes — you have to take it on faith that they are not logging or analysing your activity. Manual self-hosting offers more control, but it is time-consuming and easy to get wrong.

Ceres bridges this gap. It gives you the privacy and control of a self-hosted server with the one-click simplicity of a consumer app. You own the infrastructure. You control the keys. We just provide the tool to build it.

Privacy by Design

Ceres does not collect or sell your data. Our architecture ensures that your traffic never touches our servers. The connection is direct between your device and your private cloud instance, we just provide you with the tool to build it.

This "share-nothing" architecture means that even if we were compelled to share user data, we would have nothing to provide regarding your browsing history or network activity.

A 1-year subscription for Ceres can be purchased via the AppStore. DigitalOcean will charge you separately for the server (usually $4-6 USD per month). You are responsible for all cloud provider charges.

6.0 Can Ceres block tracking or analytics?

Yes. If you enable DNS filtering on your Ceres VPN server, you can block common tracking and analytics domains at the network level. This can include analytics used by websites, including this one.

Ceres does not rely on tracking for any functionality. On this website, analytics are disabled by default, and only enabled if a user explicitly consents. We use these optional analytics to help improve our search engine ranking and content.
